DAYTON. Jan 2, 1847. $100 State Bank of Ohio, Dayton Branch. Wolka 1003-42. This spurious note is the first example to be reported. It was long hailed as the "holy grail" of Ohio obsoletes until research by Wendell Wolka showed that no $100 notes were issued. Despite its listing in early counterfeit directories no examples were known until this note surfaced in 2015. Very Fine. $6500.

This money was used by French immigrants to the Ohio Country (Northwest Territiory) - specifically in Gallipolis (City of the Gauls). W(illiam) Duer signature. Historic and incredibly rare.
