PRANG'S HEROES

Louis Prang was a Boston engraver and printer, most famous for producing the first Christmas cards used in the United States (1875). He also produced Merchant Scrip portraying prominent figures, mostly Union Army Officers. These included Generals Nathaniel Banks, Benjamin Butler, Ambrose Burnside, Joseph Hooker and John Ellis Wool. Jessie Benton Fremont, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington also appeared on Prang's notes.
